Ingredients 101: Hyaluronic Acid

Over the 2 year course of this global pandemic I’ve definitely shifted my mindset about makeup. Once lockdown hit, makeup was the first to go. I’ve been focusing more on my skin care and I have to say, learning about different ingredients and how they react to my skin has been fascinating. While this could definitely just be a “me” thing, I thought it would make a fun series here on Liv Happy Liv Well. I’m going to highlight some of my favorite ingredients and what I love about them. My hopes is that even though everyone’s skin is different from one another, you’ll find some ingredients you really love. I’m kicking the series off with one of my all time favorites, hyaluronic acid.

What the Heck is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is definitely a trendy call out these days. Almost as trendy as “organic” or “non GMO.” It’s made a splash in the skincare world, but we’re also seeing this ingredient being called out on makeup products. From primers and foundations to lip balms and glosses, it’s everywhere! HA is an acid that attracts moisture to the skin. In fact, about half the hyaluronic acid in your body is found in the skin. Because this ingredient promotes moisture retention it will keep your skin looking plump and hydrated.

As someone who has desert skin in the winter, moisture retention is it for me. That’s the main reason I love HA. But, there are benefits that go with moisturized skin such as reducing the look of wrinkles and keeps the skin looking youthful. Like most things in our body, as we age our production of hyaluronic acid declines. Lucky for us you can find HA in serums, moisturizers, and a variety of makeup products.

Where Can I Find HA?
