Airport Essentials

Airport Essentials

This week I have a crazy travel schedule, which is completely unusual for me. I’m flying to Wisconsin to visit my man this weekend, and next week I’ll be flying home for Thanksgiving. I’m so excited for these trips, but not super pumped about spending so much time in airports. To avoid being bored, or unprepared I perfectly curated my purse to contain all my essentials.

This bag is my life vest. It’s my “if you were stranded on an island and could only bring 1 thing with you bag.” It holds my needs, wants, and let’s face it, my sanity all in it’s little pockets. Sounds like a big job for a bag, which is why I use the Michael Kors Hamilton when traveling. It’s structured so it doesn’t fall over and spill, big enough to hold everything I need, and I can easily find what I’m looking for.

Magazine

There’s something about magazines and airports that go hand in hand. Skimming the latest InStyle or Architectural Digest while I wait at my gate is the perfect past time. Magazines don’t require a lot of focus, and most of them are thin enough to get through in the hour you’re waiting to board. I also love that after I finish a magazine I can pass it off to my travel buddy to read or leave it at my destination for my mom or sister to read. Unless you’re carrying the September issue of Vogue, magazines aren’t very heavy which makes them a great addition to your purse contents.

Book

Yes. More reading material. I understand some people don’t enjoy reading, but reading is an amazing escape for me. When I read I get very into the story, and time flies by. I love having a new novel to read on flights because they’re relaxing and distract me from crying children or sneezing passengers. I try to carry paperbacks on planes with me because hardbacks are just a little too bulky for my bag. Just like magazines, I can leave these with my travel buddy to read when I’m done. If they’ve already read it I love taking my read books to Goodwill for others to find and enjoy. I’m currently reading this book, and am loving it! I’ll be picking up another book by this author when I’m done.

Water Bottle

What is it about airports that leave every part of you feeling dry? The air is so stuffy that my skin feels like sand paper. One way I like to avoid the after effects of traveling is drinking tons of water. I always bring an empty water bottle with me to my gate so that I don’t have to pay $6 for one at the airport. I’m sure you’ve heard before that hydrated skin is happy skin, and that’s so true. I credit my blemish free complexion to drinking tons of water, no soda, and a proper skin care routine. Traveling can irritate your skin, so drink as much water at the airport and on the plane as you can to prevent dull and dry skin.

Playlist

Surviving travelling is all about good distractions. Having a decent playlist is crucial to me. I use Spotify Premium, no this isn’t an ad. I truly LOVE Spotify. Being able to choose my song, listen without ads, and listen offline is so awesome! Especially while on a plane. I download my favorite playlists before I start my journey, and I have all my favorite music available even without wifi or cell service. I’m not as familiar with Apple Music, but I’ve heard decent things about that as well. Either way, music allows you to zone out, take a nap, and enjoy your flight.

Travel Size Makeup

The last thing I always have in my purse is a makeup bag full of touch up products. Traveling can make you look your worst. (Especially if you don’t drink enough water!) So I keep things like a cushion foundation, eyebrow pencil, and lip gloss on hand to provide a little touch up when I land. I’m not saying you have to look like you’re about to walk the red carpet, but a little bit of effort is always nice.
