Orlando Thrifting
By now everyone should know that I have a love for thrifting. I definitely got this from my mama. She loves everything from Goodwill and Salvation Army to auctions and yard sales. Basically, us Joehl gals love a good deal. That’s why when I found Avalon Exchange in Winter Park, FL I fell in love.
Avalon Exchange is a resale shop: they buy your clothes and resell them. I made my first venture to Avalon a couple weeks before my New York trip to try to find some trendy, cheap pieces. I’m not sure about trendy, but I found a bag that I think will be a classic forever (see below). I also found high waisted pink pants, and a denim floral blazer.
This weekend, Avalon had their semi-annual Dollar Sale. They had thousands of items marked for only $1. The amazing part is that this included brands like Old Navy, Loft, American Eagle, Nike, and more. Today I ventured over and found some amazing pieces.
Dollar Sale Finds
First find was this gorgeous bronze sequins maxi dress. Unfortunately, the strap is broken, but I plan on sewing it back together. It may not look perfect, but for $1 I figured this would make a great Halloween costume or even be fun just to have a photoshoot in. I felt like I was responsible to save this beautiful dress, and it might be my favorite purchase.
I found a pink/tan pair of capris that are from Forever 21. These have a mild boyfriend fit, and feel like a good material. I feel like everyone should have a pair of work pants, and that’s what these will be for me. Whenever I’m working on an art project, or maybe when I’m moving, I’ll be rocking these. They’re even great to throw on with some sneakers to go run errands. I love how casual they are!
This next piece I went back and forth about a couple times. It’s extremely soft fabric, and fits well however I didn’t think it was quite my style. After deliberation, I decided it was only $1 and if I never wear it I can resell it. However, I’m happy I bought it and am anxious to see how it looks paired with some of my edgier pieces to bring down the “prep” factor. This is another easy piece to throw on with sandals and a tee to run out to dinner or for errands.
This tank top was an automatic “yes” before I even tried it on. I love everything basic: basic T, basic button up, basic jean shorts. I think this is a “basic” tank top. The studs add a little something extra, but the cotton material is breathable and can be dressed up for a night out, or dressed down for brunch with the gals. There was no way I was leaving Avalon without this top.
These pants look a little rough, I do admit. I love the blue and the vertical stripes, and the material is very soft. These are the perfect pants to wear to the pool on a chilly day, or to lounge around my apartment in. I could never have enough comfy pants, so I’m adding these to my collection.
For anyone living in the Orlando area, or just passing through, I highly recommend a quick spin through Avalon Exchange. You never know what treasures you’ll find!
