Blazers and Bike Shorts
Isn’t it funny how our tastes can change so dramatically? When the bike shorts trend started getting popular I thought to myself “there’s no way. It’s just not for me.” Per the usual, I’m late to the party, but I totally understand the draw of these shorts. For one, they are insanely comfortable. As a gal with long legs I love that I don’t have to worry about my booty being exposed. And, they’re super chic.
I have to credit Danielle Bernstein from We Wore What for my love of bike shorts. In her summer collection with Macy’s she designed the perfect pair. What started as me purchasing one pair as an experiment, turned into a full on obsession when I purchased the other 2 available colors. Now, they’re my staple transition to fall pieces.
I’ve tried styling them with sweaters and bodysuits, but my favorite accompaniment is a blazer. This gives a super polished and chic vibe, as if I’m strolling the streets of Soho. Which, of course I’m just strolling through my house, but we can pretend.
Styling Bike Shorts is Black & White
Black and white is a classic combination for a reason and it’s one of my favorites. My wardrobe consists of 98% black & white options. Because white after Labor Day is an old faux pas, I wanted to tone it down with black accent pieces. However, I didn’t want it to be boring which is why I opted for a plaid blazer & satin crop top. The satin brings a different textile to the party & the plaid adds a textural element.
I bought these shoes right before COVID hit, and was so excited to wear them to happy hours & date nights. Well, I’ve worn them twice including this shoot & am happy they’re finally getting the spotlight they deserve. You can still rock sandals in the fall & square toes are still super trendy. I honestly love a sandal and jeans combo & they keep any outfit from looking too fall too soon. I typically retire my sandals once October hits & break out all my gorgeous booties.
A Pop of Color
There’s nothing wrong with an all black outfit. Most of my outfits are all black, and I live for them. But, I wanted to do something different, at least for me, and add a pop of color to this look. This gorgeous powder blue is soft enough that it totally works for the fall season. In fact, I consider blue to be a neutral. How can we have denim and NOT consider blue a neutral? Anyway, I paired another satin piece with this look. I love the flow of this satin bodysuit & it’s a lightweight layering piece.
You wanna talk about shoes? You can’t talk about shoes without talking about these floral booties. I’ve said it before, my wardrobe is all basics. I add the “WOW” with my accessories, and there’s nothing I love more than an interesting pair of shoes. The heels of these booties have seen better days, but I will NEVER get rid of these.
Vintage Vibes
As the phrase suggests, I saved the best for last. If I could wear this every day for the rest of my life, I would. This blazer was an amazing Goodwill find for $8 and it’s brought me so much inspiration. I have about 15 outfits that center around this blazer. It’s definitely a show stopper. When you have a piece as gorgeous as this, you want the other pieces to be supportive. I kept the rest of the look neutral with camel shorts, a cream crop top, & cream flats. I highlighted the gold threading in the blazer with a fun gold chain necklace.
For me, styling these camel shorts was the hardest part, until I found this blazer that is. I loved the cream & camel combination, but I didn’t have a blazer that I really loved with this look. I think that denim or leather would be a great option with this pair. If you’re looking to purchase these shorts I would suggest the black pair as the most versatile, with the white coming in second place.
