Puppy Love: Meet Leia

I’ve wanted a puppy since I was in Junior High. My sister and I wanted a yellow lab to accompany us on adventures around the farm. Once my sister was leaving for college, I tried to convince my parents to get me a West Highland White Terrier, a breed that is still on my list to get someday. When Scott and I first started talking, our love for dogs was one thing that bonded us immediately. A couple months into dating, we knew that one day we’d have a puppy. I’ve waiting 24 years to say this, but I’m FINALLY a puppy mom!

On my 2020 goals list I wrote down “get a puppy.” When I decided that I wanted to live in Chicago for another year, it got moved to the 2021 goals list. But, as most of you know, I got laid off due to COVID. Suddenly my plans to stay in Chicago were shattered. I moved in with Scott in August and suddenly, our 2020 puppy plans seemed attainable again. It only took us a couple weeks of living together to find a breeder who had available golden retriever puppies.

Princess Leia

Scott and I share a love of Star Wars, and there’s no character more iconic than Leia. A strong, feminist, independent woman. There’s no one I’d rather name my first fur child after. Leia was born in September. We got to visit her the first week of November, and we instantly fell in love. Leia may be small right now, but she has a big personality that we hope will grow with her. She has an endless supply of kisses, and loves following Scott around.
