National Margarita Day

National Margarita Day

I love a good cocktail. But, with it being a global pandemic, and the middle of winter, it’s not always safe to go get one. Besides gin, tequila is my favorite liquor, and margaritas are one of my favorite cocktails. I’ve recently started loving spicy margaritas in particular. You have to be careful with a spicy margarita. Too little spice and it tastes like a normal lime marg, but too much and you won’t be able to enjoy your drink. That’s why I’ve created the perfect spicy margarita, just in time for National Margarita Day.

If I were still living in Florida, I’d be heading to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Avocado, for a pitcher of their house margaritas on this national holiday. Alas, I am in Wisconsin. It’s a busy work season for Scott, and I have a puppy who needs constant attention, so I will be celebrating one of my favorite holiday’s at home this year. In case spicy isn’t your cup of tequila, I’ve created a refreshing hibiscus margarita too! Scroll to the end of the post for a printable margarita grocery list!

Are you spicy, or sweet?

The Perfect Spicy Margarita

The best spicy margarita I’ve ever had cost me a whopping $15 in the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT. I do think I got bang for my buck though because it lasted me an entire walk around world showcase due to it’s spiciness. Ever since then I’ve been on the hunt for something just as tasty. I’ve tried a couple spicy margaritas at restaurants here in Madison, but they don’t have enough of a kick.

I used to hate all things spicy. Scott however LOVES spicy food. Since I do the cooking in our household I’ve been incorporating more spice into my diet. The remarkable thing is I’m starting to really like it. I still can’t handle as much spice as Scott, but we’re finding good balance. This margarita is easy to alter if you want it more or less spicy. For a less spicy version you can remove some of the seeds of the jalapenos. For a more spicy version you could add cayenne to the mix, a splash of jarred jalapeno juice, or a drop or 2 of hot sauce.

Refreshing Hibiscus Marg

Hibiscus is one of my all time favorite flavors. Especially during the summer, it’s a perfect thirst quencher. I have never seen a hibiscus margarita at the many Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. So, I decided to make one! Not to toot my own horn, but this is a great creation. I’m still on a spicy margarita kick, but this will be my go to cocktail as soon as it’s warmer outside!
